a major case against Tobacco brought by the Government could have wide ranging implications elsewhere... "Another question mark hanging over the case is an appeal by the industry challenging whether the government has the legal authority to pursue the $280 billion penalty. In May, Kessler ruled against the industry, concluding that the government was within its rights to seek "disgorgement" of past profits." ..."Disgorgement of Profits"...how sweet that sounds. Could it apply to Halliburton? Bush? We, the people, were lied to...and corporations made a killing. To punish war profiteers and their politicans would be a good first step to making them think twice the next time...If a nation is seriously under threat of attack there should be no question of profiting from defending your country..where your own children live and your businesses are. But in these modern wars for bucks the profit motive has to be seriously addressed. --------------------- |
