When a Christian "intellectooal" among us zips his pants up over his head and says, "well you see(sniff) they MAY be Assyrian sonewhere, old chap...but they don't TALK about it much, do they?"...we feel we've setlled their hash..that if they they WERE Assyrians they'd do nothing, literally, but talk about it a lot...and since our standard of measure for what is acceptable is entirely Christian..we're really asking Muslims to become Christians before we'll recognize them as...Assyrians! How weird is that? Now what would we think of the people living north of New York City, in upstate New York around the Tappan Zee who kept "talking" a lot about being Dutch? About how great it was when only the Dutch, the "indigenous" people of New York State, were supreme...what if they never once mentioned the war of 1776...or the Civil War..what if they remained in Sleepy Hollow and turned back to the good old days when the Dutch ran America..or a traingle of it...what if they refused to recognize as legitimate the arrival and dominance of the hated British with whom they'd been in several wars...and lost trade to and supremacy and colonies to...what if they refused to acknowledge or participate in all that America had done and achieved since they lost their top ranking hundreds ago? What if they refused to be called Americans at all but Dutch? What if they said to be a legitimate American at all...you had become Dutch and talk about the good old Dutch days? Or if everyone who was now American...really started out from Holland? Would these people be seen as altogether sane...or healthy? COULD they be? It turns out that talking a lot about what Assyrians WERE, along with a refusal to admit what they BECAME...mostly Muslim...makes one fit for the looney bin...or church. --------------------- |
