...how fearful can grairs be? I mean I was pounding them anyway...they certainly weren't protected by Hanna from being dragged outside and pummelled...but at least they could crawl back in and write their threats and what they would do if they dared etc. Now they can't even do that but must endure their thrashings and remain silent...all bottled up...hanna took away from them the last shreds of their "manhood": the ability to TALK tough.

And all of this is preferable to the grairs than freedom? Maybe because real freedom is messy and the outcome can't be guaranteed...but shit, they're guaranteed a sound thrashing ANYWAY!

I don't get it...surely I don't.
