Contrary points of view that are effective, not the paper tigers they allow in "rebuttal" are gone...relegated to alternate news sopurces without sleek corporate backing,..the new bosses frame the discussion, they define the terms...like calling a Liberal one who wants to obey the Law and a Conservativs Christian one who finds Nazi-era "reasons" to kill their next target. Muslim spokespeople still get duped into appearing on teevee programs where they are lacerated and manuipulated into raising their voices in order not to be cut off prematurely so the rest of us can see that "they're just like that"... In an article in the Los Angeles Times a fellow waxes poetic over the fact that the current nominee to the Supreme Court is married to a "feminist"...a high-powered lawyer who is very aware she owes everything to Feminism for opening doors etc...BUT who maintains a stand against abortion...isn't that waonderful and isn't Feminism such a varied and all-inclusive thing? Now Laura Bush and and Tammy Faye Baker can be "feminsts" too...that thing neo-cons do to confuse the language...stripping words of any real meaning while uploading new, political, PC definitons. In the first place the designation "Feminist" is wrongly applied to every part of the Feminst agenda...which was mostly about giving women their AMERICAN rights under OUR Law...not about anything "female". Men could have decided women had to drink from separate water fountains and called them "Radical Feminists" for merely wanting to drink water from one source. Equal opportunity and pay...econmic equality as well as equal education are NOT Feminist issues...they are LEGAL issues over the arbitray, or bible-driven DENIAL of equal treatment...based upon the quaint and barbaric notions about what a woman is...which are based on that ditzy religion of 3000 years ago. that MUST be true for ALL TIME! A truly feminst issue is one that attacks THAT book...for setting up a definiton of women in which they are seen as the monsterous cause of all of Humanity's ills...it goes to the heart of those issues where women have been denied rights and freedoms based on THAT book and on their unique attributes AS women that they don't share with men...not merely customs which then became legal barriers to equal legal rights. Men are entitled to EVERY medical service their sex entitles them to..and who is to deny that if men got pregant, abortion rights would be the first commandment. Men can fuck whom they please whenever they please..their sex drive and demands are seen as the norm...and wives could be punished for not giving in...without even the legal protection against rape-in-marriage they barely won a few decades ago...after 3000 years of legalized rape as well as violence and abuse. How's that for what the bible has given us? Sure, the law and bible say rape is wrong...until the woman is married...then she's open game any time night or day and in any way. Those things which are EXCLUSIVELY a woman's to bear and which men have denied her freedom in, are the really Feminist issues...not getting paid the same per hour. And chief among those is the human right to an abortion...not legal right, but human right. And don't tell me about the fetus and how it's a human as well...when the same people making this pious cant are the ones who devise policies for the MURDER of living children...when not just neglecting and underfunding them to death. There is no basis at all to deny a woman the right to determine the fate of her body...none but that screwy book that told men they could burn women as witches and blamed THEIR fuck-ups on women...who had what power all those centuries? No one LIKES abortion. The male Christian's attitude that abortion will become merely a form of birth control after the fact is stupid. Not a woman who ever had one went into it or came out without profound misgivings and lingering doubts...but who gets women pregnant..in marriage and out? Who leaves birth control up to women and then denies them the means to free themselves from that kind of involuntary bondage? Who in their right mind FORCES a young woman to have a baby she doesn't want an can't care for? Political hacks...that's who. Mrs. Roberts is not a Feminist because she wants to make as much money as her husband, for equal work...or because she wants to wear a short skirt to the office...or expects to be protected from sexual harrassment...those are LEGAL rights that pertain to ALL people...men and women. Feminist concerns are those which apply only to women directly...first, or primarily...they are issues which have no rational basis to exist EXCEPT for that friggin bible...religious taboos of thousands of years ago which have crept into our laws and don't belong there. No...Mrs, Roberts...you are NOT a Feminist...you are another opportunist who wants to deny women their BASIC right to their body...long before a paycheck or what you wear comes into play...you have to begin at home...in your mind/body and until women aren't free and able to rule and decide for themselves there, Feminism isn't done. note: I don't care who built Urhai...not right now. --------------------- |
