"Louie Louie," written by Richard Berry in 1956, is one of the most recorded songs in history. The best-known, most notorious version was a hit in 1963 for the Kingsmen; the FBI spent two years investigating the lyrics before declaring they not only were not obscene but also were "unintelligible at any speed."

...One parent called to complain...ONE! That`s all it takes these democratic days and the eigth grade band was told it could not perform the music..just the MUSIC, fer heavin`s sake!...we`re being tyranized by god and his minions...the majority of the parents involved favor the song, but ONE god person calls and the principal forgets all her principles...democracy by arse!

I remember the song being banned the day it came out...two years later, when I was a senior in high school, the cheerleaders did a very hot number to that tune WITH those "uninteligible" lyrics...uninteligible to the FBI but every kid in the bleachers knew exactly what Louie was about..and the cheerleaders all got into some major trouble for it, though everybody was stomping and whooping it up. It`s one of the sexiest damn bits of music ever written...but not to fear...it`s been cleared by the FBI...who decided that the music alone wasn`t obscene...how did a tune ever get to be obscene...in America...the land of "FEAR THIS"!!! It would seem we Americans are terrified of everything these goddy days.

What...we worry?
