..one of the first things they did when voted into office, democratically, was to set about trashing the Law. Soon they were able to arrest anyone...no charges necessary and ship them off to secret camps where they could do as they pleased...beat any confession they wanted out of people...torture and bury them with impunity...because this was now allowed by the new and "better" laws.

...Blair and Bush will arrest anyone they feel like...no one will feel any remorse...just the contrary, they'll get a false sense that something is being done and security is around the corner..it isn't. And if anyone comes to trial one day and the evidence isn't there for conviction, people will have a vague sense that justice couldn't POSSIBLY have been done...because to be charged by these people will be the same as being found guilty...as the hundreds of thousands of women burned by the Inquisition and the millions of Jews found out.

More and more people will join the Resistance and it will spread. The Nazis created the conditions for their own overthrow...their heavy-handed treatment of all conquered and therefore "inferior" people created hundreds and thousands of resistance fighters all over the world...that and the moral rot that comes to a country that adopts wholesale murder as a "policy" will do the trick.

We have become they...worse. It's one thing for a new Republic, recently born out of centuries of autocratic rule to turn to Nazism...it's another for a nation such as ours with our Enlightment and Age of Reason and long tradition of rule of law to become even more barbarous. The Germans didn't have far to travel to become Nazis...but what a long, long and dismal path we have traveled to get here...and how far from where we could have gone.
