Let's have you stop making the Alaha Ashur statue, and make a statue of Saddam, of Jaafari, Talabani, Barazani, or whoever the hell is ruling Iraq today. ...ah Maggie...you aren't paying attention...I said so long as Christians claim to be the ONLY descendants of the Assyrians allowed today, then they obviously are mistaken in their identity...Assyrians were inclusive people...all were welcome. If we are to believe that anything Assyrian survived...then it is shared by all the people of that region.. to use the Christian religion, of all silly things, as a litmus test for who can be an ASHURian is ridiculous and throws the whole thing into question. Which also fine by me because I am of Uruk as well. ...having said that, it should be obvious as well that no one can claim any direct link whatsoever,,,that the best we can do today is work FOR the land of the ancient Assyrians, Babylonians, Chaldeans, Elamites, Hurrians AND ARABS...AND KURDS et al. Islam has been the dominating force in BetNahrain TWICE as long as Christianity cowered there. ..I chose Allaha-Ashur because it is the image of one of the oldest gods of a cultural system known as Assyrian...I would like nothing more than to make a statue of Muhammad except it would please no one...I made a statue of Hammurabi and he isn't Assyrian..and one of Sargon I and he wasn't Assyrian either...there's no need to make one of Gudea because there are plenty and HE wasn't Assyrian either. Can I NOT make a sculpture of Apollo because he wasn't Assyrian? Does my making a statue of Allaha-Ashur mean I must accept the notion that I am a direct descendant of the people who are most famous for their inclusivenes...for taking in anybody and everybody who wanted to work for the land of Ashur, except now I must chase everyone out who isn't Christian?...I could be Japanese and it would make no difference...except I'd get more "respect" from "Assyrians" that way. I wouldn't mind at all making a statue of Talabani or Barzani...for they are of Iraq as well...even though my father fought them when he was in the army of Iraq and they could have killed him...so what...who ISN'T killing today? --------------------- |
