...I eat everything from everywhere and never get those nasties...I think the more time you spend there the more your system gets used to the bugs.

I remember my first road trip to Mexico when the moulds for the Ashurbanipal had been shipped, by ship, to Mexico...I was to meet them at the port of Lazaro Cardenas, just up from Acapulco and drive them to the foundry in Mexico City. Narsai and I met at the bar in the lobby of the St Francis Hotel for a last farewell...I would leave directly from there. he'd tried to discourage me from driving..said the roads were unsafe etc. But I had my Jeep and damn me if I wasn't going to use it.

So we had our drinks and chatted about the project and dates etc. When it was time to go we walked outside to the street and fell into each other's arms..."be careful", he said..."Mexico is a dangerous place".

...I reminded him that at the time (the 80s), Oakland, California, right on his doorstep was the murder capital of the United States if not the world. That he was living in the land of anonymous murders and drive-by shootings and bullets being sprayed into schoolyards...I told HIM to be careful as I left for sunny Mexico.
