If the answer is YES , then what you loose by claiming , and isn't better than to deny ourselves what we legally own even though is not in our hands ! ...so long as you concede that making claims in no way means they are justified. I mean that's the whole point...do you have valid REASONS to make the claims AND do the people you are addressing accept your claims. Otherwise...and this is my whole point...you're just blowing smoke...national smoke maybe...but meaningless stuff all the same. > >Then , the big PROBLEM is that for instance here that AMERICA belongs to the INDIGENOUS the American Indians, and these people are not claiming Amereica, but they are struggling to get whatever they get, and as far as I know the U.S. Government respect them and in many instances are rewarded and furthermore ...sorry to disappoint you...but several native Americans are still in prison as a result of the American Indian Movement of the 70s. Leonard Peltier is just one...and several were killed outright by the FBI. And, yes...they were indeed claiming, not America, but their ancestral lands. In fact the Seminole Tribe, to name only one, has a treaty in their possession, signed by the Congress of the United States AND the then president promising to give them Florida...which was taken from them by force. Even with this treaty in hand and with no one doubting who they are or arguing the validity of their claims...they have never received Florida. ..this story can be repeated many many times. I think you need to brush up on American history and the history of the Brits as well if you think ANY of the people they stole land from have NOT asked for its return. there are many places which has Indian names, we will find the Americans preserving those names UNLIKE what is going on in Iraq which is going a wrong way that places and names are either Arabized or Q.......ied a case in point Erbil as an Assyrian city which preserved its Assyrian name up today the Q.......s are calling it Hawleer ! ...in America, when they cut down an orchard to build a parking lot...they call it "Apple Lane"...if the trees they cut down were apple...or Apricot Manors" if apricots had once been there. I don't think there's a single Native American who cares what a river is named...I think they care for the reality, not names. names is what you people are all about. ..California and the entire southern border is filled with Spanish names...but I don't think that made the theft of that land any more pleasant for the Mexicans who'd lived there for ages. ...if Assyrians named those cities at one time...why can't they be re-named? What you fail to consider is that one set of conquerors can't very well criticize another set for doing the same thing. I know it strikes you as unfair...and it well may be. But that's the way things have always been done in international law...to the victor go the spoils...you certainly wouldn't have minded when the Assyrians were conquering and re-naming and removing people from their cities and towns to create a new reality...why do you think it's wrong for the Kurds to do the same? No one GAVE them anything...they too have paid in blood...blood shed fighting the Iraqi government...which never did them any good UNTIL America decided to use them. But for all of that...they are perfectly within their international rights to" 1. Take whatever land they want to (as every European country has) 2. Keep it, if they can...and IF they can, as per United Nations rules and common practise...after 400 years of occupation they become INDIGENOUS. Kurds have as much right to take and re-name and keep lands as America gave itself and England gave itself. The funny thing is that ALL of the powers you people address KNOW this already...and not a one of them would agree to give anything back because it sets a terrible precedent...creates all sorts of headaches for their allies who have native people of their own who will seize upon ANY such example anywhere in the world and harrass their own governments for the same. So, do you want us to be silent and have no say? or at least we make the public aware of it, and also you know very will that the Q....s were kicked out of Kirkuk City during the Saddam regime, now by the AMERICAN and BRITISH power the Q.....s are back and starting kicking others out what is your stand on that, we should be silent ? ...I can't see yelling "rape" and doing nothing about it...or hearing someone else cry "rape" and refusing to give aid. What I don't understand is why you think any good can come to you from someone RAPING Iraq? American OR Kurd? ...I also don't see what talking or yelling can accomplish...or have ever accomplished. It seems to me that you're just making the REALITY worse for those Christians who don't care WHAT name is on the street or on the city or even the country...all they care to do is live in peace...as YOU left to do...and be allowed to raise their families as near to the ACTUAL homeland as they can...never mind whether it is called Assyria....or Iraq...or Kurdistan. ...YOU are the ones hung up on names. Would a name mean anything to you if the Brits had decided to rename Iraq ASSYRIA? Would you then advocate the end of all hostitlities because the war is aimed at ASSYRIA....regardless of who is IN Assyria? ..if they call it Assyria as the price of throwing every Christian out...would that be acceptable to you? > >Finally, as always said, I doubt that I could make you convinced but I did my best . ...as I understand you, the point is to SAY what you want...to SAY what you believe is unfair. You seem to have no expectation of anything changing in your favor...but to you, it is better to at least SPEAK. I'd agree if you weren't ALSO contributing to the misery of the Christians remaining when you say things you can do nothing about. Besides which...you must be addressing SOMEBODY when you say these things...who? Who is supposed to hear you...who do you wish to reach? Do you at least know your target audience? > >With my best regards, > >Ashur Beth-Shlimon >___________________________________________ >Tammuz 11, 6755 / July 11, 2005 --------------------- |
