The legend of baby Moses, and the fairy tale of the ark of bulrushes are taken from the ancient Assyrian legends. In that connection Moses and the King Sargon of Agade (Sharru-ken, Sharrum-kin) share the same legend. The ‘pitch’ which is used in the basket to make it waterproof exists in Mesopotamia and not in Egypt. Therefore the authors of the story of Moses must have overlooked this sensitive point when they were adapting the narration about Sargon to Moses. --------------------- |
