...an interesting parallel that you must have all been thinking of lately. It's been going in my head for two weeks and counting. Ukraine, 2004: The vote was rigged. Country is divided ideologically by East and West. The people rose up non-violently and surrounded government buildings, bringing all government activity to a halt. The Supreme Court and Parliament acted by voiding the election and solving the problem. USA, 2000: The vote was rigged. Country is divided idelolgically by Bible-Belt and Non-Bible-Belt. The apathetic people watched talking heads on Television as the hand-picked Supreme Court let the one who did the rigging win. The Parliament sighed, then rolled over and did nothing. The people accepted the outcome. Government activity continued uninterrupted. ...well? --------------------- |
