...you can`t take them round the world and force them on people...they aren`t all the same so "what`s the difference, they`re close enough". Religion is at least as important to people as love is..you can`t tell your wife it doesn`t matter that you brought another woman home..or are leaving her for another one, "but not to worry dear...she`s ALMOST the same as you". No one wants someone else`s children in place of their own either...they have way too much of themselves invested in their own...children and wives and lovers and gods are NOT interchangeable...they are not socks or pants. Every group of people on earth have developed their own view of god...of the story of creation..of where they came from and where they might go and how they should conduct themselves while here...it has been a beautiful and fascinating saga, nothing to fear or hate but something rich and inspiring to CHERISH...but then along came Rome and needing to tame its unruly and far flung empire, it forced people to sell their souls if they would live..which goes a long way to explaining why, after years of wandering lost from our roots...so many of us who profess to be Christians are so damn lost and uncomfortable in our own skins...because we are loving the wrong person...raising children who are not our own..believing in gods our ancestors never imagined or created. It is absurd to claim Assyrians gave up Ashur....and can find contentment and direction under any old god...Jesus will do. Jesus was for THOSE people...born of THEIR religion and special needs and weirdnesses...it is a religion of a people who couldn`t bathe, couldn`t eat...couldn`t build a damn thing..a people who grew more proud the less they had reason to...as a compensation...they were a people who tried to break the grip of Rome a few times and paid dearly for it..even being all thrown out of their precious promised land at the end...among THOSE people there grew the desperate hope that a Messiah would come and beat up the Romans...that`s all the Savior cult was at one time...the time of Jesus. If it has any meaning for Assyrians today it is only because they`ve reduced themselves to helpless Hebrews who must wail and whump for deliverance...for an Equilizer..so forlorn and shabby and incapable are they...they have become a people not in Love...not sleeping with the one they love...with strangers for children...wandering forlorn in the world without even knowing why or wherefore. --------------------- |
