...not only have my posts at aina NOT be removed...but Firas ANSWERED me. can it be that there is ONE Christian over there not afraid...? I brought it over just in case he takes fright after all.... Fred, ...the name is Farid...you and I seem to be going in opposite directions where our names are concerned...but never mind. >where did you people ever get the idea that a true test of a democracy is, "minority GUARANTEES"? You do bring a very valid point that Basic Democracy (sometimes called 'simple democracy') cannot safeguard the rights of minorities. ..it isn't a question of "cannot"...that implies an inability or failure of "simple" democracy...and seems to hint at such a thing as "complex" democracy which WILL do such a thing. If I said that democracy doesn't pay your taxes for you...you couldn't very well say that this is another failure of simple democracy..it is NO part of ANY democracy and never was....Greece had the ONLY true demcoracy(the rest of them, America included, are republics) and in Greece NONE of the women had rights and neither did the slaves..in fact their democracy was one of a MINORITY...but that's how they defined "citizen". In America as well, until the 1920s, women...who make up the MAJORITY ,were denied basic rights...and never mind Blacks, Native Americans etc. And no one gave them a damn thing...they fought long and hard for the right to full citizenship...and so did Afro-Americans..if anything and going by America's example...democracy MEANS the suppression of minorities...standing in their way, using the police and spurious "tests" to cheat them of their full democractic rights,,,it is indeed simple... ....democracy MEANS an iron hand by the majority OR the stronger minority who set the rules and define the terms...and BAN or DELETE anyone who disagrees....ahem. What some of our Assyrian groups are calling for along with several Iraqi groups is constitutional Democracy. ..the United States has a Constitution as well...so does Britain...and in both countrries women, the majority, had to fight for their rights...a constitution guarantees nothing either becuase it has to be RATIFIED by a majority...your Assyrian groups may wish to enshrine Assyrian RIGHTS in the constituion...and even if they manage to get it on the table...it will NOT be ratified by a majority...so once again, it's all smoke and mirrors and show...except that Iraq had to bleed to death and hundreds of thousands of children had to be starved to death and irreplaceable treasure had to be stolen and the entire country bombed back to the dark ages and divided into warring factions who will buy arms and poison from the United States to fight each other, as Iraq and Iran did in THAT war...and for all of this you claim that it's worth it so you MIGHT get some words written in that will be removed? Constitutional Democracy is, to my understanding, the majority is limited by law, as well as independant instituions, ..Facism is also "limited by law". ...your understanding is faulty if not downright foolish. How do you suppose the "law" becomes the law? Who decides what those independent institurions will consist of? In our democracy, to ensure that there is less a chance of a tyranny of the majority, certain measures such as amendments to the Constitution must be passed by a two-thirds vote...and that's it. That's the MOST chance given to minorities to get togetrher and block a simple majority of 51% from dominating. In Iraq, put all the Christians together minus the thousands killed and escaped...and you don't have anywhere near one-third of the total population. So that even if you needed a two-thirds majority and not a simple majority of 51%, Christians of Iraq STILL haven't the numbers to make a dent anywhere. to uphold the rights of minorities and individuals. This is the form of democracy practiced in many countries. ...no one anywhere upholds the rights of minorities...what you gave me was YOUR theory...give me some factual basis...an example of a DETESTED minority...one EVERY Muslim is gunning for..as you all never tired of repeating was the case before the war...and show me where the majority wrote in GUARANTEES for them...one example. For a list of nations with such a system and other systems, see http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/gov_gov_typ ...I've learned not to bother with links posted for me to get the REAL facts from..if such facts exist, I expect the person making the argument to supply them..in all debate or controversy, as in the Law, it is the responsibility of each side to present all of their material themselves...this habit you all have of making a point and then sending your OPPONENT to go look up YOUR evidence for himself may work with others...Assyrians were never so stupid as to fall for it. If you have something to bolster your case with, YOU bring it the discussion. Why do I have to do my work AND your's? Fred, Could you please elaborate on who "you people" are and where did the "you people" state that "minority Guarantees" is the true test of deomcracy ? ..."you people" are all Iraqi Christians using their Christianity as PROOOOVES that they must be Assyrian...which is like a Jew who converts to Buddhism claiming his new belief in the Buddha makes him a REAL Jew...and gives him the right o laugh at any Jew who still believes in yahwe....but for now, let's just say it refers to all of you who supported this war and claimed it would be the answer to all YOUR prayers..though you made a nightmare of everyone else's lives...specifically I'm refering to Peter The Rabbit who posted here on aina that the LITMUS test of Iraqi democracy would be how WELL they protected MINORITY RIGHTS...ask HIM. Also, If you want to have a discussion, please spare us the insults. After all "you people" includes you... ...are you seriously going to tell me that I am the one, the only one, bringing insults here? Are you for real? This place was FREE of insults till I got here??????...come on. ...and how is that you people get insulted so easily? Will you face the Shiia, the Sunni AND the Kurds, to get your HISTORICAL rights...and will you run this easily, or get flustered so quickly if any ONE of them dares "insult you"? Why do YOU tell your adversaries how easy it is to be done with you all? I've been insulted all over the place by YOU PEOPLE...you have never scolded anyone when my mother, father and children were being vilified by YOU PEOPLE...and I'm hardly the only one...and now I MUST refrain? Not ten thousand of your insults or anyone else's will cause me to falter one inch in my actions as an Assyrian NOT as a Christian. Why is it that you must be moddled and coddled and stroked and rubbed or else you leave the field? Just where did you get the impression that you HAVE to be respected...no matter what you say or do? ...and "you people" defintely does NOT include me...if I was included in that designation I would be recognizable as a Christian...and I am not...I would NOT have done anything in America...except talked a lot. It was not one of you people who built the Ashurbanipal Monument...and if you call that bragging...then tell me why you people only brag about your LOSSES and miseries? Why do YOU have nothing to brag about? In closing I will say that for the ability to write here and at least begin to make it appear as if you understand what a "simple" FORUM is...I will be polite and stick to the point...so long as you don't take advantage.... --------------------- |
