Received a piece of nonsense from the AUA about a letter they sent to the prime minister of Australia...al of it is silly but this part is more than just foolish. Consider first that Iraqis will never voluntarily surrender any part of their nation to a Christian minority, no matter how hard they try to provre they are Ashurbanipal's children....Just imagine the liklihood of a modern Greek petitioning the Greek government for the "return" of the land on which his ancestor Socrates' house stood on. Since no Iraqi government will ever do such a thing what then is the effect of these sorts of demands made to foreign Christian powers...especially those who have only recently waged war on Iraq? Well...it's basically a question of a religious minority requesting a foreign power to "guarantee" or help "return" lands the minority claims...in other words a minority is asking an outside power to do for them what the legal government of the nation WON'T do...that's a pretty good definition of treason, especially when such requests imply military attack as well. And Iraq is suposed to tolerate this sort of thing from a Christians minority no less? Would America...would Great Britain...would Botswana? When Iraqis hear of these sorts of "requests" or letters sent to foreign Christian nations they know exactly what is being asked...nothign short of further violations of Iraq's sovereignty...something they are especially likely to resent these days. So the entire effort is counter-productive. While such letters are sent with the claim that they mean to "save" the Christian minority, their actual outcome is quite the opposite...so much so that you have to wonder if the AUA and others are really and truly the "friends" of the Christians of Iraq they pretend to be. This is one of the demands... 3- We request your support of the Assyrian demands to establish a geographically viable demarcated region as an Assyrian autonomous region in the historical Assyrian lands in Northern Iraq as part of the modern day Federal Republic of Iraq. ...that they are "historical" lands means nothing...Arizona is historically Navajo land...yet no one is going to turn it over based on that. There can be no "autonomous" region in a federated democracy...no way. The closest thing to it would be the reservations of the old West...but the natives there had no power or control....the better example is the Millet system but that was killed by Christians waging war against the Ottoman Empire and will not come again. No nation will hand over such a region to one of its minorities and the chances of a Muslim nation doing so where a Christian minority is concerned is even more impossible...but that won't stop our nationalist idiots from weeping and wailing. This newly created Assyrian region shall be administrated and protected by the Assyrians under the jurisdiction of the central government of Iraq. ..."autonomy" MEANS something...something quite incompatible with "jurisdiction" of a central government. This is the result of our idiots refusing to read dictionaries or learn the meaning and usage of words..they literally don't know what they are talking about...it just SOUNDS good. The establishment of such a region will be most crucial to the security and survival of the Assyrians in Iraq by allowing greater local Assyrian control within the context of their integrated, sovereign Iraqi state. Anyone whom knows us knows we can't run a picnic or bingo hall in Modesto without declaring war...there would be no peace or security in such a Zoo. We have shown time and again, even in the most trivial of circumstances, that we fly off the handle at the slightest push...and it would be worse where we had more power....it's OUR reputation...we made it that way and still do. This action will also encourage the Assyrian refugees - whether those in the homeland or the Diaspora, or internally displaced - to return to Iraq. No it won't. A few may THINK they'd like to go back....but hardly any will. Those who do will return with hopes of getting rich quick. No one is going to subject his children to a life surrounded by madder than hell Muslims...and the way we talk about Muslims I'm surprised that any of us would even THINK of living surrounded by the sort of people we have characterized as the WORST and BLOODIEST in the world. Furthermore, the autonomous region would allow for political, educational, linguistic, religious, and cultural protection. ...wrong again. There would be a constant battle over Jesus, just like before the Arabs came and imposed peace and tolerance. This Assyrian region will be a Middle East success story of freedom, democracy, the rule of law, economic prosperity and an example not only to the region but to the world. ...Jesus! How much crap can one letter contain? These people, the AUA included, can't handle peace or democracy or freedom of spech in AMERICA...they're going to practise it, all of a sudden, in a small region when they have power???? Right! On behalf of the Australian Assyrians, we thank you very much for your consideration and support. Yours faithfully, Hermiz Shahen, Deputy Secretary General, Regional Secretary of Australia & New Zealand, Assyrian Universal ..there is never any "consideration" for these kinds of letters and requests...they are filed in the garbage can but those sending them feel mighty fine...like they just did something...to them this is national WORK...writing meaningless and laughable letters to heads of state. It would all be okay and a harmless passtime by some aimless people if not for the fact that it makes the lives of those Christians living in Iraq all the harder and more dangerous...because Iraqis know that Christians are asking other Christian nations to FORCE something onto the Iraqi government...and they understandably resent it and must wonder how much better things would be if there were no more Christians in Iraq to be used like this by a bored and silly ex-patriot community overseas. --------------------- |
