Whatever what one may think of Amy Whinehouse, she's dead: and the White Trash comments on Yahoo never seem to relent with the hateful, distasteful kneejerk reaction to her tragic passing. Now, you may not like her, or her music; personally, I feel that she had an enormous voice, but I'm more a fan of the late, Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, who also died at 27: Hendrix, Joplin, Morisson, and even Cobain, also gone at 27. People don't realize that these artists were not just drug users because it was "cool", any performer can tell you - from comics like the late, John Belushi, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor (who died of MS, but battled cocaine addiction most of his life), that the stage is a battleground, that fame is a tempting whore; and in the case of Amy, she suffered from bi-polar disorder. I had a girlfriend who also was bi-polar, and like Amy, refused to take anti-depressants.. and unfortunately, ended her life with an overdose of sleeping pills after she was raped while she was in a state of mania. Another crazy diamond was the lead lyricist and front man of Pink Floyd, Syd Barett, who also was suffering from depression and found instead LSD to cure his madness, he, unlike the "27 Club" died only recentely. Roger Waters wrote this song for him in the 1975 album "Wish You Were Here":

"Shine on You Crazy Diamond"

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

For Syd Barett (and Amy Whinehouse)
