We all know how suposedly wildly barbaric and savage the ancient Assyrians are said to have been...by European Christians whom, one would imagine, were angels of mercy, especially since Jesus came along to wash them clean and make them smell nice.

The following comes from Will Durant's first volume of his multi-volume "The Story of Civilization" titled "Our Oriental Heritage", p.272 and covers the reign of Sargon II, roughly around 800 B.C.....

"Punishment ranged from public exhibition to forced labor, twenty to a hundred lashes, the slitting of the nose and ears, castration, pulling out the tongue, gouging out the eyes, impalement and beheading. The laws of Sargon II prescribe such additional delicacies as the drinking of poison and the burning of the offender's son or daughter alive on the altar of the god...trial by ordeal was occasionally employed; the accused sometimes bound in fetters, was fl;ung into the river..."

There isn't a single punishment in that list which wasn't handed down by Christians up until the 17th century...that's 2,500 years after Sargon's time and, even worse, 1,700 years AFTER Jesus, meek and mild, came to cleanse the world of sin and teach "love". It's one thing for "savage" Assyrians with their "bloodthristy god" to have behaved in such ways. after all, didn't their god "demand" it of them...so weren't they just obeying their God?

How does this compare to what the Christians did? And not a gang of Christian thugs but the Pope and all the leading doctors of the Church? How come THEY weren't obedient to their God? At least Assyrians kept faith with Ashur...what was the Christian's excuse?

Perhaps only impalement wasn't practiced by Christians, that I know of...and I don;t mean by individuals or gangs, but by the leaders of the religion. While castration may not have been a Christian punishment it was done to young boys to keep their voices sweet and pure, so they could sing Church music...but all the other horrors were practiced by Christians, officially.

Christians went one better...they would draw and quarter traitors and heretics...that involved making a slit in your belly and drawing out your intestines, slowly, and roasting them over a fire...regardless of whether you survived, you were next hanged, and as if that wasn't enough, you were cut down and your living heart cut out from your chest and held up to the Christian crowd...then you were hacked in four quarters and the church bells rang and prayers were sent up to merciful Jesus...

Who's the bloody savage? Ancient Assyrians didn't have the "advantage" of Jesus...I don't think they missed out on anything. At least back then they were at the forefront of civilization, which they, naturally, strove to protect...what have they to show in the modern era, assuming we believe they are Assyrian? Nothing, nothing but being chased from pillar to post and turning on each other....nothing but shame and loss has been their lot since Jesus "saved" them...saved them from what...achievement?...glory?....success?...decency?

The ancient Assyrians, the only true Assyrians, followed their God Ashur...why do Christians have such a hard time obeying Jesus?
