it's true that they hate it. Why else would a people who claim descent from such a great civilization, and which contributed so much to this world, hate history so much and turn to janitors, taxi drivers, hair stylists and the other amateurs for their history lessons? It's because Aprim and the likes write their own history and they do it the way they feel it should be. Assyrian nationalism is a recent invention and there is no dispute about that among historians of the Middle East. It is Aprim, Peter and the rest who reject this fact and say that modern Assyrians had been 'unfairly" called Nestorians by foreigners. It wasn't foreigners who came up with that but it was these same Nestorians who were calling themselves that. They were Suraye and Nosturnaye until the rise of Assyrian nationalism. They went on and tried to rewrite their own history and even try to get Chaldeans and Suryoye along because they are too small without them.

Their fanatical claims caused Chaldeans in the US complain to the Census office and have themselves separated from Assyrians. This turned aprim mad and he was outraged by it and called them "Arab-lovers" because they did not want to be associated with these traitors and crusader fanatics. Chaldeans have had no problems living with Arabs and other Muslims and Chaldeans were far more active and prosperous in Iraq. They were already active in politics around the time when Aprim's people were still living in villages and waiting for their "promises" from the British. For this reason they are called "Arab-lovers" because they actually love their country.

I was googling modern assyrians and found a bunch of garbage from aina and all those heroes who quote themselves or use their own writings as proof. I thought this was interesting by Peter and this is mere propaganda and dishonest. He could only fool himself and those who read without caring for facts or sources. He wrote under 'brief history of Assyrians':

"Second Golden Age: 33A.D. to 1300 A.D.

Assyrians continued living in their homeland throughout this dark age, until that momentous moment in human history, when the Lord Son of God gave himself for the salvation of mankind. Very soon after the crucifixion, the bulk of the Assyrian population converted to Christianity, although there remained to be Ashurites, until 256 A.D. It was the Apostle Thomas, with Thaddeus and Bartholomew who came to the Assyrian city of Edessa and founded the Assyrian Church of the East, the first and oldest church in the world."

Assyrians? Where is the proof for this claim? What "assyrian population" is he referring to? I am not saying there weren't any people with Assyrian blood in them around that time, there sure were and not just Assyrian blood but Babylonian, and others but there was no "Assyrian" identity around that time, and the first people to follow Jesus were Jews, who were under the leadership of James, not Paul. These were Jews and if anyone else joined them, they would become Jews as well. But Jews weren't open to converts and it was Paul, who was an enemy of James and Jesus, who opened Christianity to foreigners. So there is no way these people could have converted to Christianity first because there was no such thing. These people are writing their own history and it's clear. Here is more:

"Armed with the word of God, and after 600 years of dormancy, the Assyrians once again set out to build an empire, not a military empire, but a religious empire founded on divine revelation and Christian brotherhood. So successful was the Assyrian missionary enterprise, by the end of the twelfth century the Assyrian Church was larger than the Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches combined, and it spanned the Asian continent, from Syria to Mongolia, Korea, China, Japan and the Philippines."

They were Nestorians from Mesopotamia, Syria and other areas, not "assyrians" as you call them. Some of those Nestorians became known as assyrians but that was much later and thanks to the British. Other Nestorians became known as Chaldean prior to the British and that's after they stopped being Nestorian and changed to Catholicism. However, you boast about your missionaries from assyria going all the way barefoot to China to preach the gospel, but you make no mention about their lack of knowledge and interest in the ancient assyrians. These people were living in historical assyria, at least some of them were, and they were reading the Bible, where the ancient Assyrians are mentioned, in a false and negative way, yet these people never thought of themselves related. It was only after the Chaldean name was revived and only after the British missionaries came up with modern Assyrian pride that the remaining Nestorians became "aware" of their identity. Those missionaries were Syriac speaking Christians, not Assyrians, or at least not the way you claim.

"When Marco Polo visited China in the thirteenth century, he was astonished to find Assyrian priests in the Chinese royal court, and tens of thousands of Chinese Christians. The Assyrian missionaries had reached China in the sixth century. With only the bible, a cross, and a loaf of bread in hand, these messengers had walked thousands of miles along the old silk road to deliver the word of God. So successful were the missionaries, when Genghis Khan swept through Asia, he brought with him an army over half of which belonged to the Assyrian Church of the East. So successful were the missionaries, the first Mongolian system of writing used the Assyrian alphabet."

You mean Nestorian priests who spoke Syriac and were perhaps from the east, but okay, whatever. It is more astonishing to me that you people are so proud of this but have nothing Assyrian about you for over 2,000 years. You only recently became assyrian and learned what you know about the ancients and now you wanna fool the world. You are happy to boast about your missionaries but you wouldn't know anything about the ancients if we were talking some 150 years ago or so. as for the alphabet, I am sure you mean Syriac, but okay, again.

"Armed with the word of God, Assyrians once again transformed the face of the Middle East. In the fourth, fifth, and sixth centuries they began a systematic translation of the Greek body of knowledge into Assyrian. At first they concentrated on the religious works but then quickly moved to science, philosophy and medicine. Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Galen, and many others were translated into Assyrian, and from Assyrian into Arabic. It is these Arabic translations which the Moors brought with them into Spain, and which the Spaniards translated into Latin and spread throughout Europe, thus igniting the European renaissance. "

What you are doing here is bull. You are substituting Nestorian with Assyrian whenever you get a chance and that's dishonest. I can't wait to get to the bottom of this so I can see your source. Nothing was translated into "assyrian" at that time unless we were talking about Akkadian, but that's a dead language and you don't speak it. If anything was translated by these Nestorians, it would be into Aramaic/Syriac. Let's stick to what is true and not talk our of your arse, but I will get to your source soon and see what it is. CAN'T WAIT.

"By the sixth century A.D., Assyrians had begun exporting back to Byzantia their own works on science, philosophy and medicine. In the field of medicine, the Bakhteesho Assyrian family produced nine generations of physicians, and founded the great medical school at Gundeshapur. Also in the area of medicine, Hunayn ibn-Ishaq*s textbook on ophthalmology, written in 950 A.D., remained the authoritative source on the subject until 1800 A.D. "

As above, you are using Assyrian instead of Nestorian or Suraye as they were known. And it seems like you have totally erased the Islamic golden age from memory. It is as if it never happened, but I have to remember that you are Christians and never read history books.

"One of the greatest Assyrian achievements of the fourth century was the founding of the first university in the world. The School of Nisibis had three departments: theology, philosophy and medicine, and became a magnet and center of intellectual development in the Middle East. The statutes of the School of Nisibis, which have been preserved, later became the model upon which the first Italian university was based."

That school wa snot founded by "Assyrians" and it had nothing to do with "Assyrians" but everything about Christianity.

"When Arabs and Islam swept through the Middle East in 630 A.D., they encountered 600 years of Assyrian Christian civilization, with a rich heritage, a highly developed culture, and advanced learning institutions. It is this civilization which became the foundation of the Arab civilization."

It was Syriac and Nestorians, Jacobites, etc. You forgot to mention that you were also hunted like pigs during this time by western Christians who wanted to annihilate you like they did with other heretics, and you forgot to mention that Arabs saved your Nestorians asses and lifted you from your knees and allowed you to come out from your hiding places. I guess arab and muslims didn't add to the works of previous cultures and make even better of it. the Arabs didn't just get things translated into their language but they added, improved, developed and invented in addition to that. They didn't just steal something and take credit for it.

"But this great Assyrian Christian civilization would come to an end in 1300 A.D. The tax which the Arabs levied on Christians, simply for just being Christian, forced many Assyrians to convert to Islam to avoid the tax; this inexorably drained the community, so that by the time Timurlane the Mongol delivered the final blow in 1300 A.D., by violently destroying most cities in the Middle East, the Assyrian Christian community had dwindled to its core in Assyria, and henceforth the Assyrian Church of the East would not regain its former glory, and the Assyrian language, which had been the lingua franca of the Middle East until 900 A.D., was completely supplanted by Arabic (except amongst the Assyrians). This, from 1300 A.D. until World War One, became the second Assyrian dark age."

Now you get to my favorite part and this is where I rub my hands and I am ready to skin you. I know you are talking about Jizya but you are a liar. Christians were overtaxed by their own church long before the Arabs came. You are right, and I thank you for it even though you didn't mean to admit, that many Nestorians or Assyrians, as you put it, converted to Islam. This was not to avoid taxes at all. I know you don't read anything other than what you write yourself or the bible, but Muslims pay zakat, therefore, assyrians could not have converted because of the few coins and now have to pay zakat, which both genders have to pay. I have established and proven to every asshole, like you, that Jizya was not what you make it out to be. I am not gonna repeat it since it's already here. We can debate this if you are assyrian enough to respond to my email or come on the forum I invited you to.

"Second Dark Age: 1300 A.D. to 1918 A.D.

The Assyrian missionary enterprise, which had been so successful throughout the Asian continent, came to an abrupt end with the coming of Timurlane the Mongol. The indiscriminate destruction leveled by Timurlane against the civilizations he encountered put to a permanent end the Assyrian missionary enterprise. A large segment of the Assyrian population escaped the ravages of Timurlane by fleeing into the Hakkary mountains (present day eastern Turkey); the remaining Assyrians continued to live in their homelands (presently North Iraq and Syria), and Urmi. The four Assyrian communities, over time, begin defining themselves in terms of their church affiliation. The western Assyrians, all of whom belonging to the Syrian Orthodox Church, began identifying themselves as "Jacobites". The remaining communities belonged to the Assyrian Church of the East. After the division of the Church of the East in 1550 A.D., the Chaldean Church of Babylon, a Roman Catholic Uniate, was created, and members of this church began to call themselves Chaldean. By the end of the nineteenth century, these three communities no longer saw themselves as one and the same."

Sounds like a bunch of Christians to me. There is nothing Assyrian about you people and the Jacobites have always called themselves suroye and oromoye(both meaning arameans). What you skipped is that you suddenly became "Assyrians" not long ago, and only after the Jacobites and Chaldeans. They weren't Assyrian before but the only thing they had in common with you is church. They belonged to the nestorian church and spoke same language. You also forgot to mention that you have tried to assyrianize these people for the last 80 years or so and they don't want anything to do with that.

"Diaspora: 1918 A.D. to the present:

In this century, Assyrians have suffered massive genocide, have lost control of their ancestral lands, and are in a struggle for survival. The Assyrian nation today stands at a crossroad. One third of is in a diaspora, while the remaining two-thirds lives perilously in its native lands. These are some of the dangers facing the Assyrians:

Denominationalism and fragmentation
Islamic fundamentalism
Arabization
Cultural immersion and absorption into Arab societies
Mass emigration to the West, and absorption into Western societies"

What genocide and when? where is the proof? Oh wait, I will get to the source when we finished. We're there.
