Assyrians in the Koo Koo Klan???

In a delightful book by Pete Hamill titled “Why Sinatra Matters”...

“...there were millions of Ku Klux Klan members across the nation, 40,000 in New Jersey alone”.

In Jersey? Millions in the nation??? I always thought the Klan was in the South. Turns out they hated everybody...not just Blacks and Jews but Catholics, Italians and anyone dark or “not American looking”...meaning not white. And they were a lot more popular and spread out than imagined.

Did he say “Apgar”? As in our King Apgar....our own King Kleagle??? Sure, ole George could have been Assyrian. Hoboken was an industrial town and our people flocked to factory jobs....could have been a light-skinned darkie who passed for white. Who else would have such a prowd Assyrian name?
