The body of Marlene Awimalek Aziz was found in a river in the area of Nahla on December 24, 2008. Marlene was 19 years old, she was born in the village of Hizana in Nahla but lived in a compound called Azadi in Aqra. Marlene disappeared on the 15th of December, 2008 and there were conflicting news regarding her disappearance or whether she was abducted, however, investigation is on going but no information was released.

We have received information that a Kurdish man was stalking the girl for sometime and that he is the one who abducted and killed her. The girl's family has been trying to find out what happened to their daughter from the Forensic Department where the body is kept but their demand was refused and their efforts with the Kurdish authority which controls the area weren't successful either. The girl's father even went to the police station where he gave them the killer's name but he hasn't been able to do anything regarding this abominable horrible crime.
