The Modesto fund raiser for the AID society took in around $90,000. Don't know how much of that is clear but that's not bad...considering it wasn't an event to raise money for lawyers so Assyrians can sue each other. I'm going to brag that the Ashur sculpture earned them $8,000, minus casting costs (the highest paid for a work of art that night). With the $14,000 they got for the same sculpture at the previous fund raiser in San Francisco, that makes $22,000 in a year from two sculpture taken by two individuals....that makes for around $19,000 clear with which to help Assyrians in Iraq. If it's okay for Batou to brag that he's a slave and Aprim to brag that he's been "persecuted" and Rosie Malek "Over Here" Yonan to brag that her family was killed by Turks...I'm going to brag that I made a sculpture that two Assyrians paid good money for to help educate Assyrian kids in Iraq whose lives have been ruined by Christians....because Christians did this thing, not Muslims, Islam or Iraqis. If we weren't such a pig-ignorant "nation" of jackasses who like nothing more than to beg the world's pity we might allow more of our talented kids to go into the Arts....we made great artists once...we can do it again. They don't even have to be great...just "good enough"...good enough to inspire our own people to shell out money...with which our artists can grow and gain confidence. My own harrowing experience with these fools would discourage anyone from attempting the same thing...if they took it seriously, that is...and not as an invitation to a bad amateur night. But I don't quit. And the next time these same fools think it's going to be easy to ruin an Assyrian sculptor, they're at least going to think it over...long and hard. That's a victory too. --------------------- |
