..I say again it`s very easy to do. Remember Aprim and his insistance that Chaldeans were really only invented by the Roman Catholics? Well, the same is true of the modern Assyrians...they too were invented, in this case mostly by the Anglican Church(for Layard and the other earliest ones called them all Chaldeans)...Dr Joseph outlined how the names of Nestorian newspapers in America changed in the years between the Wars....that was when "Syrian" was replaced by Assyrian....again...all anyone has to do to prove Dr Joseph wrong is to show one source...just one, where any Nestorians were referring to THEMSELVES as Assyrians or Chaldeans...direct descendants etc...before either the 16th or 19th centuries. ..it is true that people used those terms to refer to the region...after all, the entire Christian world knew of the Assyrians and Chaldeans because of the Hebrew bible...but did the people living on the land ever call themselves as such...before either the Catholics forced a schism in the 16th century...as far as "Chaldean" is concerned...or before the 19th century where the term "Assyrian" is concerned...it means nothing to show that those two words were in usage...why wouldn`t they be? How often do we hear about Neanderthal Man or Cro-Magnon woman...but that doesn`t mean they exist and live among us. ..what will settle this entire thing is proof...proof that Nestorians called themselves Chaldean or Assyrian before the 16th or 19th centuries...that`s all. Everything else is guesswork and meaningless conjuring. Dr Joseph says that Europeans first called the Nestorians lineal descendants....all that has to be done to prove him wrong is show that the people themselves knew themselves to be and called themselves accordingly....and if the gambit about Syria really meaning Assyria all along is to be tried again...explain then why no one called him or herself Chaldean all those centuries..not until the Roman Catholics showed up? Why was NO ONE calling himself Assyrian or Chaldean for all those centuries? Why? --------------------- |
