I just don't get it. People who back Zimmerman up say that he had every right to shoot a 17 year-old kid because he was losing the fight and was in fear for his life.....he was just defending himself...with a gun. Why doesn't Trayvon get the same break? Every kid's parent tells their kid to beware of strangers...especially strangers following you at night...who chase you, by car and then on foot...and I believe Zimmerman made first contact, not hitting necessarily but running Trayvon down to the point where the kid turned and confronted Zimmerman...Zimmerman never identified himself...to Trayvon he was just a stranger, a white man, chasing him down....at that point can't Trayvon be in fear for his life? Can't Trayvon use his fists to defend himself from danger, as Zimmerman would use his gun a few minutes later? All Zimmerman had to fear that night, the only weapon Trayvon had was his fists...and regardless of what Trayvon's fists MIGHT have done, we can see they didn't do much....Zimmerman had a gun, and we SEE what damage his weapon did...who had the greatest reason to be afraid that night? And to use a weapon, even if it was only fists? If Trayvon's fists were "weapons" with the potential to do "great bodily harm"...what was Zimmerman's gun? How much damage did Zimmerman's weapon do compared to Trayvon's? Trayzon was seen as ONLY threatening...while Zimmerman is seen as ONLY defending...a fist against a gun? Really? The one juror who spoke out said that BOTH made mistakes that night...but how? Zimmerman was TOLD not to get out of his car...he chose not to listen, he also acted exactly how neighborhood watch people are NOT supposed to behave...but Trayvon did EXACTLY what a parent would advise, what common sense would say...Trayvon disobeyed NO ONE...Zimmerman DID...how are they both at fault? --------------------- |
