And the village priest.

Our nationalists, who “already know” and don’t need to read “stupid books” because of the history they got from “old people” and their village priest, would make a pretty picture arriving at a college with them in tow. It’s practically what they do anyway but, fortunately, they do so only to study medicine or engineering…fields in which even they know old grandmothers and priests don’t qualify, whatever good company they might make otherwise.

But not in history or those Humanties Dr Odishoo wants our Assyrians to enter. In these fields our nationalists feel justified, if not honor-bound, to take gramps and Father Couscous with them as infallible guides and arbiters of “truth”…turning to them whenever a “dumb teacher” contradicts what “they know already”.

That’s the reason we have never produced…and seldom will, anyone expert in this field who’s actually STUDIED it and not gotten it from a grandparent or old Couscous. Well…we have produced one…Dr Joseph. But since he won’t cut his suit to satisfy anyone’s grandparents he’s naturally an “enemy” and “stupid” too..

What a sad…but funny spectacle we make of ourselves.

It’s a good thing Dr Shamoun’s grandmother didn’t study Botany with him. Without her presence in class to tell him the truth about trees he’s been able to be gainfully employed in his field. Had he tried history instead grandma would have sent him packing from university. It’s also a good thing grandparents don’t “already know” all about Botany, Chemistry, Accounting or taxi driving..or else these fields would be off limits to the great asses who make up this great nation of asses.
