...it's a little deceptive to call a person an "Historian" who has studied the history of religion...any religion. This is not an historian in the true and best sense of the word. Assiduously studying which dessert myths came when and which was first and who were the leaders in the development of human sacrifice and cannibalism and incense and voodoo ritual...it's all a KIND of "history"...but it isn't HISTORY.

The person who gets a doctorate in the history of the French Revolution is dealing in actual and real things....the person who gets a doctorate, from a "divinity" school no less, has advanced knowledge, it is true...but of what? If you study the history of religion, as a neutral unbeliever, that is legitimate...but if you study the history of religion and are yourself a devout Catholic you're probably going to only study Catholicism vs what's bad about all the rest...or put what you learned to use in the service of your faith...you certainly aren't using your advanced degree in the service of TRUTH...but in the details of the LIES of your religion...and they are ALL liars.

The same would be true if you got an advanced degree in the Civil War in America and used your knowledge to ramp up the membership of the KKK. You can find justification and even "truth" for ANYTHING in the bible,or any other religion....you can't do that in HISTORY....unless you misuse and abuse the knowledge gained....actual historians, if they are scholars and good ones, like Joseph, do not advocate for anything except the truth....someone of a religious bent studies the history of religion to put it to USE, like Aprim only reads to find what can be of use to his cause, and his cause is not history, or truth, or knowledge...it is to validate his preconceived, untested, unquestioned prejudices...and this miles away from what an actual historian does.
