...Hitchens claims that gods and religion and its claims are what keep the Israeli/Palestine situation from resolution and lies behind the conflict...the two sides apparently each refer to their god to back their claims to the land, and this will keep them fighting forever.

I know Hitchens views all religions as bad, but Islam as much worse...but what he says isn't true, at least not where Islam is concerned.

No Palestinian is relying on the Quran or Muhammad to back claims to the land...the Jews are doing that. The Jews use their own holy book as a deed of land giving them a claim to ownership to Palestine (Israel disappeared long ago). Muslims have actual deeds of land as well residence established over centuries...they make no reference to promises made in a holy book. Jews do that.
