How We Came To Think We Are Assyrians II In which we pick up where we were dropped off in Dr Joseph’s book… “Prior to World War I, the Anglican mission to the Nestorians gave the Assyrian nomenclature a new impetus. Formally known as ‘The Archbishop of Canterbury’s Assyrian Mission’, it re-enforced, no matter how unintentionally, the linkage between the Nestorians and the ancient Assyrians. ‘ Assyrian Christians’, which originally had only meant ‘The Christians of geographical Assyria’, soon became ‘Christian Assyrians’. No wonder we are such unreasoning brutes when we discuss anything near to this topic…because the other side has all the reason, calm, logic and evidence in their camp…as their opponents we have decided to chose opposing “methods” rather than opposing facts, because we have no valid evidence nor logical points to make, and so we shout where our opponents talk, we use personal insults and accusations where they use none, we use fancy and imagination where they don’t and we eschew valid sources, notes, references and bibliographies except for very minimal ones carefully selected and then bowdlerized to suit our aim, which is to disprove them as we feel they are only interested in disproving us, where they have immense bibliographies and the best resources in the world. Additionally we claim our agenda is “truth” and so, it should follow “logically”, they must be liars. How blissfully simplistic. --------------------- |
