I think anyone who knows us assyrians knows that the stupidest among us are the nationalists and the very religious...it's a toss-up which is worse. But I am more interested in the nationalist because he pretends to be "logical" and not all gaga religious.

Just why are they so dumb anyway? For one thing, they refuse to read real books. Instead they curl up with those print-for-hire books by the likes of Aprim, Jassim, Rosie Malek-Yonan and others who write history as they please with no background, no standing, no scholarly credentials or associations....who mostly pull their "facts" from their rear ends or the rear ends of priests and grandparents...none of it backed by anything but what suits their prejudice. The really clever ones among these "authors" append long lists of books in bibliographies they have NOT read or picked things out of context from and twisted around to make their points seem respectable...and, since none who read their books read any of the ones that were supposedly used as reference, they get away with it.

But why so dumb and proud? Well, human psychology is such that the dumb person canÕt bear to also be ashamed of his ignorance, so he presents a proud face, in an effort to "save" it.

In this recent discussion with Mr. Suave I think I finally understand...the issue comes down to the distinction between fact and opinion and how our nationalists see the two as really the same thing. Since none of them read anything serious, they are blissfully ignorant of facts, history etc. But, that does not mean they won't form opinions. You and I may read about WW II, for instance, and pick up several facts, attested to in many reliable sources and then form opinions, based on our reading. Our nationalists also have opinions, but they are based on nothing more than those same opinions...in other words; they think the way they do because they think the way they do... their opinion is just as valid, in their own crossed-eyes, as your opinion, because they are BOTH opinions!... even though your opinion is based on something else, something outside of you and official, or recognized and well documented.

Since they refuse to read, they know none of the facts...but they'll be damned if that minor detail will keep them from also forming opinions...if you can do it why can't they? "Do you think you are better than me, just because you read some stupid books"...you think that makes your opinion more valid"...? That's the reason they respond so foolishly when presented with actual facts...they blink and stare. Not knowing where they came from, they think you made them up, invented them to suit yourself, like they do with their opinions...only you're just more clever and devious and "tricky" because you used those "stupid books". Like all peasant villagers who distrust the city "slicker" or anyone marginally sophisticated. Since they make things up to suit themselves they think you must be doing the same thing.

This is also why they argue and debate so poorly...because their ideas and opinions have no depth....they are skin-deep....that's the reason that after hurling their opinions at you the first time, they have to run for cover or, if they are really brave, repeat verbatim what they already said and you just shredded. Beyond repeating once, they have no further ideas or strategy and that's usually when they swear at your mother, or daughter, call you a traitor....ban you and then run and hide.

In a real fight they would have one punch...or maneuver before collapsing, glass jaw shattered. There is no substance to them or their arguments or their "history"...and their opinions turn out to be very poor substitutes for facts, or even a rag with which to cover their bare arses. They expose themselves for fools and then get angry at others for laughing, not at themselves for BEING foolish.

The thing is that they know it...that's why they turn so mean and nasty....because it's so easy to show how shallow they are they get furious at YOU...not at their own shallowness. And they aren't all necessarily congenitally stupid either...that's what makes it so sad. Among them there are some capable, smart people...smart enough, that is, to become doctors or engineers or accountants...but they are cursed at an early age with this notion that they and only they, and then only because they are Christian, are the REAL and true and only descendants blah blah blah. This weird belief , coupled with the hatred they are taught towards Muslims for supposedly forcing their forbears to convert to Islam, poisons their minds to such an extent that no matter what else they accomplish, when it comes to this subject, they revert to idiocy and babbling and silly books filled with prejudiced opinions, masquerading as facts, they make up and then "refer to"...as if anyone else is fooled by this.

Thinking you are Assyrian is bad for your mental health....
