...Same sex marriage is now legal in Illinois......however religious groups are spared having to perform such marriages...but just as civil unions were never the end-goal, neither is just being able to be married in a civil ceremony....Churches are right to be afraid that their day will come.... "Addressing concerns about protections for faith-based communities that oppose gay marriage, the bill that advanced Thursday would exempt churches from being forced to perform same-sex wedding ceremonies or host the receptions." No, they don't have to perform the ceremonies or host receptions or anything decent....however you KNOW Gay rights groups are going to question the tax-exempt status of Churches who practice discrimination on OUR dime. Let them discriminate all they want....just don't allow them to keep their federal tax-exempt status...and you'll quickly see a "new understanding" from Churches. --------------------- |
