...it's interesting that Arrow asked if I was a lawyer...he didn't mean it as a compliment. To Arrow lawyers, and logic and reason, are enemies...and they are. They are enemies of superstition and hysteria....which are great friends to Arrow. He keeps trying to muddy the waters...in a discussion about the LEGAL right to marry, not the "spiritual", he brings in the Church as an "expert witness"....when the Church has all the same reasons to dislike Logic and Reason and lawyers...and the police, ahem. But if Arrow were to be allowed to argue before the Bar of History, say at the Supreme Court level, he would have argued thus. 1. If your honors permit a Black man to marry a white woman, or vice versa, you will set in motion events which will one day lead to Gay people marrying...and who knows what else. 2. Your honors, do not allow schools to be desegregated or one day I fear there will be a Black man as President. 3. Your honors must not allow women the right to vote because one day.... 4. If it please the court, women must not be allowed to dispose of their persons as they wish but must remain under the thumb of their husbands or else one day.... 5. I warn your honors that Blacks must never be placed on an equal footing with Whites or else one day..... ...and so it goes. Arrow has been the champion of every discredited notion about how things "must remain". He is afraid of change...of growth etc. He sees these things as necessarily bad...and they are, for his personal prejudices. ....but it is LIFE to the rest of us. --------------------- |
