"Bi-allelic markers. Y chromosomes from 139 Iraqis were examined by using 17 bi-allelic markers. These markers, which are considered to have occurred only once during human evolution, define the main haplogroups of the human Y-chromosome genealogy (The YCC, 2002). Since no significant differences among the Iraqi groups were observed (Assyrian and Kurd sample sizes are very small), all data were pooled. The results are reported in Fig. 3." http://www.familytreedna.com/pdf/Al_Zahery.pdf They have since assayed larger sample sizes of Assyrian and Kurdish Y-DNA and mtDNA Haplogroups, and lone behold. They are remarkably similar. I don't view any ethnic group as superior or inferior to me, only racialists and racists hold such unscientific beliefs with unwavering conviction. It aggravates me, every time an Assyrian arrogantly boasts him/herself about his ancestors accomplishments, while debasing those dreadful "Arabs". The ethnogenesis of a group, is a complex dynamic consisting of a common, collective heritage that binds all its members on a unified identity. Which is based on culture, language, customs, traditions and sometimes, but not always religion. Sometimes such ethno-cultural identities are developed over time, and are a continuation of a one or more previously ancient populations. For others, it's imposed upon them. Either way, it doesn't matter how recent or how antiquated one's ethno-cultural appellation is. It isn't something which you can assign objective properties to, especially in terms of genetics. Because everybody in the Middle East is more or less related, and the ancestral components and haplogroups they belong are largely the same. "Assyrian" may have been around longer, but that doesn't make it any less subjective and contrived than "Turk", "Persian", "Arab", etc. --------------------- |
