...which causes writers like this fellow to point out the Isis in America.....it isn't a question of "oh YEAH? Well you TOO"! Isis commits a crime so we react by pointing out that the United States of America, a nominally more civilized entity than Isis, is also guilty of such crimes.....it isn't a game we engage in but an attempt to keep things honest. ...we are asked to believe that the United States is above such barbarisms, that "THEY" do these things and we do not and never did...the purpose of this is to convince us that we are different and more pure and hence our violence is in the service of Right and Decency and to put an end to such horrendous behavior....but these are the actions of a Bully, a school-yard bully or one within a family who torments younger versions of himself for bed-wetting, or pooping in diapers or any number of acts which he too committed, but which he now wants to pretend he never did and only the "other" did.. If someone wants to trigger my outrage at an intended victim he can't very well accuse the victim of what I know I myself committed...you can't rush up to me and point out Cedric, over there, and in breathless tones warn me that he used to PEE IN HIS PANTS and therefore we should both tease and torment him...it won't work if I am honest, or have any kind of memory at all for I'll not find Cedric's behavior all that different from my own...when I was Cedric's age. But that's what media and the government try to do when they tell us that the OTHER guy is violent and "you won't believe what he did"! yes I will, and I do....I remember that we did the same things, as this fellow points out in his article. It would be a case of real exceptionalism if America REFUSED to play the bully, instead of glorifying its bullying. --------------------- |
