In Eisenhowerīs first run for the presidency, author John Steinbeck worked for the Democract candidate....when the Rupublicans won he was furious at their "inefectiveness". He blamed this since-epidemic ineffectiveness on their "failure to say things straight" and "name names or face issues".....he also found Adlai Stevensonīs "refusal to dig in and fight depressing". What we have to understand is that both parties feed at the same trough...we like to pretend that Democrats represent "the people"...especially the common people...the not-rich. But thatīs just packaging and marketing...there has to be the appearance, at the least, of two parties, or else Americans might grumble...it has to LOOK like there are two sides....but there isnīt...hasnīt been for a long time. Thereīs only one side and then MORE one side. And we still say things like, "how come Democrats donīt FIGHT"! "Why is it that even when they have the numbers, they still talk about bi-partisanship....why do they insist on including the Republicans...well, it would be like racing downhill without brakes for the Democrats...the Republicans are the "brakes" of American politics, certainly of the Democratic party...this is a dyed-in-the-wool Conservative country...more than ever before....and the drill is that we have to have TWO parties at least, and that one has to be the brake on the other...it has to drag and slow down and stop or even make movement impossible. The reason the Democrats seem useless is because they are, thatīs the script...or rather their "use" is to present what we like to think as an option to the Republicans...and the Republicans exist to make sure the Democratsdonīt get much done...and between the two of them the rich get richer...on BOTH sides. --------------------- |
