..there's a dangerous love affair going on between the American public and their police forces...with force in general. The social consequences of the massive neglect of our human condition, inequalities, abuses, lack of serious caring and oportunity has resulted in people speaking up, acting up, in other words:behaving as human beings have always done when frustrated by systemic neglect...and the only way we've come with in dealing with social unrest is to bless our police and give them near carte blanche to "protect us"...from ourselves...from our children and grandchildren. The student who was tazered by police during a town hall meeting at the University of Florida when he refused to stop demanding Kerry answer his shouted questions brought the usual response by police...except it escalated to the point where, even when officers were sitting on the student, he was tazered...even while you hear him begging they not do so. It's the same mind-set that brought us to the point where no one asks the obvious question about the MidEast: Why are Arab nations upset with Israel and America's use and support of it? Instead we believe that Muslims are "just like that"...and we send in the police. Some day we may look back at these times as the begiining of a police state such as the world has never seen. --------------------- |
