...caught ya! "Our main focus should be in building elementary, secondary, and high schools and more importantly, universities with which to train our youngsters from the very beginning in our language, our culture, our political cause, and necessary skills and knowledge with which to build the Assyrian province, secure it, and expand it, and make it into a reality by which our people can flourish physically, spiritually, financially, academically, and politically, just the way the Kurds did. Anything short of this is a waste of time, money, and breath, as there will never be anything solid by which to sustain our people's needs and keep them in the homeland!" ...The Kurds did it the way it's done...by not running out...but staying to fight. The didn't issue calls for a MILITIA...from Turlock. They formed one INSIDE Iraq. ...These "schools", from the point of view of the Muslims, are nothing more than the same kinds of attempts made 100 years before by religious missionaries to "teach" Christians...in other words, they were viewed, rightly, as the means by which the West can have and maintain a "presence"... ..in fact anything proposed or brought from outside Iraq, especially from among the citizens and tax-payers of the nations making war on Iraq..and ESPECIALLY from Christians...which is all the "Assyrian" Muslims see..will be highly suspect..as it should be. By "our" history and culture they mean nothing more than perpetuating these tired old myths about how these Christians...calling for foreign intervention, are lineal descendants of the ancient Assyrians...NO proposal for anything with this as its basis will get anywhere in Iraq or Kurdistan...but it SOUNDS and FEELS so good. Without it Magpie is merely an accountant in her brother's fle-bitten business...with it she can be a statesman..a commander...a liberator! These are children playing office...nothing more. The MidEast rightly distrusts missionaries....religious or "political"...this call to build "schools" and teach "our culture" is code for Western Power-Eltism...in an "Assyrian" disguise...it will be roundly rejected....after the buildings are finished. Christians in Iraq will do far better if they have nothing to do with foreign Christians...especially those who claim they "love" them and want to "save" them ..."sustain our people's needs and keep them in the homeland!" ..this is the crux as well as the dirty little secret to this "new" initiative by these same old Powerless-Elites...they want someone ELSE to stay in Iraq...with all the handouts they can get...while THEY remain safely outside.... ...as we now ask Republican lawmakers, who want to remain in Iraq.."would you send YOUR son or daughter to achieve "freedom from terror"? We should ask these aspirants to a power elite among Christians...would YOU go to Iraq to make a "presence"...? --------------------- |
