...America's chickens have come home to roost"....he was blasted for saying that after JFK was killed....he meant, of course, that a nation as violent as the United States, directing violence against so many, will see violence come to itself. 22 military Vets commit suicide every day! This is unprecedented...part of it is blamed on not enough "resources" at the VA...that's such typical thinking...commit whatever brutalities you want to a 19 year-old and worry about it later...hire more "counselors" and of course hand out more pills. But it is possible to go beyond the point of no return, where no amount of help or counseling can undo the damage done. Just why are so many veterans of these last wars killing themselves? Why can't they sleep...why do they wake screaming...why do their personalities shift so drastically? What's the matter...don't they FEEL like heroes? Or do they feel like murderers, child killers....well-armed men who stalk neighborhoods at night hauling innocent civilians out to terrorize and kill? Is the disconnect in their minds between the glory their country forces upon them, for their own sakes entirely, and the reality of what they are actually doing unsettle them too much? Does the reality they live, killing innocent people, good people who never did a thing to them shatter their illusions about how "great" and "exceptional" their country is? Is it the killing of their own naivete and foolish innocence that ultimately makes reality too painful to bear? I hope so...because otherwise we'll only kill off more of our own. --------------------- |
