Dr Joseph’s book…(I finally know the title, “The Modern Assyrians, Encounters with Western Christian Missions, Archaeologists, and Colonial Powers”) supplies the missing pieces to many a puzzle regarding us…and is itself, by its very existence, one of those pieces. For how can it be that modern Assyrians have never…ever, produced a professional whose profession, not hobby, is our own history, ancient and modern? Just as it’s been a puzzle why there have been no Assyriologists from among us, except for Rassam and now, one hundred and fifty years later, Zack Cherry…where is all this “love” of our supposed history that none of us have been bothered to study it and join our professional voices to those of the myriad Jewish Assyriologists…whom we claim “hate” Assyrians? How is it that we have had no interest in the actual words, written down in cuneiform, the real Assyrian language, by our actual “ancestors” but instead have wept over the Hebrew and Greek and Aramaic versions of a bible written by none of the people who appear in it? Where then is our “love”? What more do we need for proof that we are Nestorian Christians first, foremost and exclusively…that we reserve any love of study to the reading of those abominable Syriac manuscripts, filled with righteous lies about how martyred we were and glad of it…or the way we pour over minute passages in the Bible, looking for justification or evidence that Yahweh really likes us…and how we fret and pine for the glorious day when Issaiah will be proven right? Where is the interest in anything Assyrian? Dr Aryan Ishaya is an anthropologist by training….an “Assyriologist” as a hobbyist. Dr Joel Elias is a cellular biologist and also an amatuer Assyrian historian …Fred Aprim is a mechanical engineer and “author” of Assyrian folk history on the side…Maggie Yonan is an accountant and self-styled “educator”and there are many other such examples of people who made sure to steer clear of any disciplined study of history, who most likely never could have endured upper division classes and certainly produced acceptable thesis or dissertations without first clearing their universities of the multiple “enemies of Assyria” they would have seen in every professor who disagreed with what “I know”. It seems that in all our modern history only one man has had the intellectual integrity and intestinal fortitude to take in history, as a discipline and not a jingoist’s delight…and that man is Dr John Joseph who, as one would expect, is called the “so-called” Dr John Joseph…why? Because he, of all of them, knows our actual history…in other words his very proficiency disqualifies him from being a “real” Assyrian…because real modern Assyrians are mendacious jackasses…that is their one real qualification. --------------------- |
