..."A World Lit Only By Fire". Little Brown and Company, copyright 1992-93 ....it is really startling how much evidence there is, real evidence, for what Christianity has done to people of other faiths....while nothing exists to back up Christian claims that Arabs "killed Christians for their religion or forced them to convert". Of course Arabs killed Christians, but that was because of war, not because of religion...and even in that department history shows that no one has killed more Christians than Christians themselves, or killed people JUST for their religion, such as during the Holocaust. "Meantime (1478, mine) the king of Portugal, finding merit in the Spanish decree, ordered the expulsion of all Portuguese Jews. His soldiers were instructed to massacre those who were slow to leave. During a single night in 1506 nearly four thousand Lisbon Jews were put to the sword. Three years later the systematic persecution of the German Jews began." p. 35. ...and we all know where THAT persecution ultimately led. Now, how come nothing similar is listed against Muslims and Arabs? Why haven't scores of historians, Christians no less, found a single incident where Muslims did these things? Are these Christian historians to be called "enemies of Christ"...or of Europe? I mean that's what we do; as soon as you write something factual, but not nice, about assyrians they assail you as enemy, tell you where to live, insult your mother, but they NEVER present a counterargument, they never present facts for their side...just yelling and cursing. Let's see what such a paragraph would look like... "...in 1506 nearly five thousand Christians were put to the sword by the Muslims of...." I have never seen such a statement, anywhere except at aina and in Aprim's book. And mind you, those murdered Jews were more than likely highly successful doctors, businessmen and other professionals...we're not talking about society's rejects here but a very skilled and loyal group of citizens. When have Muslims EVER done such things? Describing the utter sterility of the Christian centuries known as the Dark Ages he says... "....medieval Europe's contributions to world literature had been negligible. Japan had been more productive, and the Stygian murk of the Dark Ages is reflected in the dismal fact that Christendom had then published nothing matching the eloquence of the infidel Muhammad in his seventh-century Koran." pp. 99-100 Are we to accuse William Manchester of being an Arab? Are we to call him an enemy of Christ...is he "trash-talking" Christianity? Or can we say he is merely an objective, professional historian? In discussing the sale of indulgences or Papal forgiveness of sins, so long as money was paid in to the Vatican, and how these abuses drove Luther to make his break with Rome, first and openly against Tetzel, a monk notorious for his ability to weasel money out of peasants in the most mean and venal ways.... "Unapologetic, unyielding, the friar (Tetzel, mine) defended his distribution of cut-rate salvation in an argument later described in the "Catholic Encyclopedia" as giving AN UNCOMPROMISING, EVEN DOGMATIC, SANCTION TO MERE THEOLOGICAL OPINIONS THAT WERE HARDLY CONSONANT WITH THE MOST ACCURATE SCHOLARSHIP."....(caps mine) p.145 ...and there you have an accurate description of what ashur, minime, Aprim, BetBasoo, aina and all the rest of them provide in place of "scholarship".....I'll highlight it again..."MERE THEOLOGICAL OPINIONS". ...the rest is deafening silence. --------------------- |
