...at least he's willing to stick his neck out some more...

“Don't get me wrong I am not denying that we can be Assyrian,”

*** That’s nice… Keep it in mind when you comment on this subject in the future…

..and you keep in mind what is meant by that...that we can claim to be INFLUENCED by the ancient heritage...to respect and want to asscoiate with it and want to clean it off from the garbage Christianity has smeared it with...also keep in mind that this does not include the time or people in the Christian Era...that is not an "Assyrian" heritage or identity..it is a Christian one...not the same thing at all.

“and had possibly the British not used this name for the Nestorians in Iraq, who knows what they be calling themselves,”

*** It wasn’t because of the British. It was because of the SHOVEL. Had the SHOVEL not been invented, The Assyrians would not have come to be known in history. What do you think?

...what is it with you and shovels?

“but there is no doubt that the ancient Assyrians, Babyloniabs, and other Mesopotamian tribes are the great ancastors of most modern day Iraqis”

*** Who said that wasn’t the case? …And BTW, do Assyrians also qualify as “Modern day Iraqis”?

...every assyrian but you, apparently. And "No" if you mean those claiming to be assyrian actually are...but "Yes" if you mean that all Iraqis, whether in state hospitals or not, are equally "descended"...but if you mean they are already assyrian and "direct" descendants...then "No"...

“ and not only the Christians”

*** Who said only Christians can be Assyrians?... Only you and pancho come up with ridiculous ideas like that to create topics of argument for yourselves…FYI. There are more Iraqi Muslim intellectuals claiming to be Assyrians today than you can imagine...

...you're whistling in the wind. We didn't make it up and you know it.

“, but I am rather just wondering what would the result of today's Christians of Iraq be had it not been for the foreigners who used these names while our people had apparently forgotten them for 2000 years.”

***You wouldn’t have cared about the results if you were born a Somali, would you?

...sure. I was born in Iraq and I wonder where you all come from. Any person who hears of this would be moved to weigh in...I don't only care about things in my own neighborhood.

So why speculate?

..it's something human beans do...always have.

The fact remains that whoever decided to call us Assyrians, had a good reason to do that…

..that's not a fact at all. In FACT, it's the entire question...all you do is make the question your "answer". There was absolutely NO good reason to call those people living in villages on top of the ruins by the same name as those buried UNDER the villages over 2500 years before...no good reason at all.

...You can be born in the land of the Navajo Indians, which has only been called Arizona within the last two centuries...but that doesn't make you ethnically Navajo. Sure, you can stick a feather in your head and whoop and holler around a campfire...but I promise you, then it comes time to hand out the money from the tribal gambling casinos...you'll have to show a lot more than a feather and a tomahawk if you expect to get anything.

I suggest you research more and read ALL the point of views that are out there, not just those of pancho..

...I suggest you bring them here and analyze them for us...as we have done for the points of view we know of. If you actually know something...then bring it here and don't send us looking. In fact, if you HAD any such "research" you'd be only too pleased to show it...don't be like Magpie, ahem.

...You have nothing to say to refute any of the points already raised...only what you consider sly rejoinders...why should we "research more" when what we have already keeps you silent...or talking in circles? It must be that shovel.

“is no way that anyone is purely or directly related to the ancient Assyrians”

*** That is an extremely ignorant statement, made purely to create arguments…

...actually that's exactly what your statement is. In fact, that's all your few statements are intended to do; you think you've "cast doubt" when you make this kind of accusation...the ignorance seems to be on your part...since you can provide nothing to back your statements up but think instead you can make the points we raise seem "ignorant"...when there is so much information in them you can't even begin to deal with step by step...as we have no trouble doing with what little you present us of your own beliefs.

You say this and you turn back and say something else that contradicts yourself… Re READ all that you wrote again.

...no thank you. These games work in church but we aren't in church. Here, if you want to be accorded more than mere respect, as any person deserves, for your beliefs, YOU will have to provide the facts and arguments and reading list...you can't merely tell US that we must "work harder" or "do more reserach"...we have done enough, where you are concerned...it's way past your turn.

...such silly games. Have they worked gor you in the past?
