...before the church congratulates itself let's remember that they tried their damndest to keep from ever allowing it to come to this....to trials and defrocking, I mean...which proves again that if we have improved our human rights record at all over the ages it is not thanks to religion or the church but in spite of them. It's our secular law that keeps us safe and the church honest...secular laws are the greatest promise of justice and humanity...the Church has been forced, kicking and screaming, to drop its barbarous ways and adopt more humane teachings...or at the least its claws have been trimmed.
