...I mean we all know people started calling their children Ashur and Sargon and Nineveh in the 19th century...but there is a family with the last name of Lamasu...really? Someone in their family tree obviously wasn't satisfied with just being a Sargon or Ashur, but wanted to be a Winged Bull, a Lamasu as well. Anyway, so I get an email alerting me to the fact that Mr. Lamasu is giving a lecture at which he will discuss "really important research" about assyrians. I googled him and found out he is or was a research assistant at Cambridge University, in the archaeology department, obviously he thought that was important...which is funny when you consider the disrespect shown to a Ph.D from Princeton....it seems that the less education an assyrian has, the more his views are respected. Of course, as an assistant it means he does grunt work for the actual professors....but anyway...power to him. It says that he has "published" one book. Turns out it's an expanded pamphlet, his words, printed by the Assyrian Academic Society, which is none of those things...not assyrian, not academic and not a society either....just a few fellows who must NOT have an advanced degree in anything remotely connected with history....but who know they are assyrian. In other words, this guy couldn't get his book published either...even though he IS a research assistant. The title of this "book" actually has the word "pitiful" in it...used to describe the condition of the Persian assyrians....I have no doubt it is a pitiful book. Sure wish someone of these guys would give a pitiful lecture in Mexico. --------------------- |
