...this is what is scarry about these people....this is a preview of what you can expect in any "Assyria"...that there would be no protection of the liberty and the freedom of the people to dissent. You can see it in their forums...you can see it in the way they define democracy to be simply the will of the majority, which then becomes a mere tyranny of the majority. ...what helped gain ratification of the US Constitution was the inclusion of ten amendments which we call The Bill of Rights...these guaranteed certain rights and liberties to each citizen, whether their party won the popular vote or not...this concept is totally lacking in the brains of the Assyrians...take Maggie´s forum as an example. She never tires of presenting herself as a defender of free speech...but she reviews every post ahead of time to see if she approves. You can call that democracy, if you want to, in that her board of old hens "decide democractically" by majority rule, how to ban people without doing it publicly....but does it guarantee individual liberty? No, it does not. This is what the Christian Right wants in America...they despise the Bill of Rights because it protects individuals and minorities of all types. In their version of America there would simply be majority rule and the majority, eventually, would be trained up in Christian madrassahs....and this is the kind of democracy Assyrians envision for their Assyria; it will be a democracy, yes....a majority of fools who will deny free speech and equal rights to those who disagree with them...you can already see how they would rule by how they treat dissent on their forums...anyone dissenting, no matter how mildly, will eventually have his mother cursed, himself vilified, called traitor and what not, and finally "disappeared". And this is merely on forums...wait until they get a country....which, thank god, they never will. --------------------- |
