...or another engineer, accountant, doctor or taxi driver will bring HIS missionary to bear witless to their claims....I mean isn't Wigram just as valid a missionary source as Assemani...or Justin Perkins....or Coakley? Well, one big difference is that it is Dr John Joseph and his traveling missionaries vs an engineer, a taxi driver and others and THEIR performing missionaries...in other words, Dr Joseph selects missionaries who have some actual standing as realists, as credible sources, while our engineers will grab anyone who strokes their balls. That is the difference. The difference in the quality of the sources is; who brings them...who chooses them. It is the difference between propagandists who have their information from parents and priests and whose "books" are nothing more than their own opinions which they pay a "boutique print shop" to have printed; which no actual publisher would touch....who select their "sources" the same biased and untutored way they choose their "facts"..., and a recognized professional in the field who uses vastly superior standards when selecting sources. Even when they haul in their assyriologists one has to remind them that these people, as ever qualified in their fields as they may be, are not versed in or expert in the sources, the time and place, where these modern designations first popped up....and, just as Dr Joseph would be rightly chastised by professional assyriologists for giving what amount to his opinions, even "educated" opinions, on topics covered by academic assyriology, as a professional field, so should Parpola be viewed when he steps into an area he is not professionally qualified in. You do not earn an advanced degree based on your opinions, no matter how learned you may be in other fields. So, while they may puff out their chests on account of Simo Parola's opinions, Parpola himself, plus the administrators at Wikipedia know who has the more valid claim to knowledge on this subject. After all, Dr Joseph stood nothing to gain, among Assyrians, in producing the research and books he has while Parpola has allowed himself to be dragged to AANF conventions, expenses paid, where in addition to shmearing convention-goers with what they want to hear, has solicited donations for a pet project of his, from just those people most pleased with his opinions and likely to contribute. I'm not accusing Parpola of deliberately playing up to these people for donations. Just pointing out that Joseph had nothing to gain, and much to lose, by seeking out the truth, for its own sake...while, happily for him, Parpola could lose nothing by his opinions, while gaining contributions...and all the while "opinion" is all he had to offer. --------------------- |
