...democrats are gloatng that they have taken the lead as "tough on foreign policy"...they feel warm and fuzzy all over to hear that the nation now trusts them more on foreign policy, that they've replaced the Repubs as the ones seen as "keeping us safe". What a victory for neo-cons...what a sad day for progressive liberalism. I'm convinced that Repubs have a much larger long-range goal, far more central to their aims than simply winning elections...their real success is in pulling the nation to the Right, and here's Obama being "tougher" on foreign relations than even the Repubs. Which means what? It means that in order to maintain the fiction that we have two parties, the Repubs can now stake out a position even further to the Right...which they've been doing for thirty years...sure, they begin to appear like losers....but what they've succeeded in doing is making the Dems over in their own image. Why should Repubs need to win elections when they can get the Dems to implement their agenda for them? And catch the heat? --------------------- |
