...next to Mark Twain, the quintessential American...the absolute best of the type.....died last week. He never achieved stardom but not through his fault...he was dubbed a Commie early on spent his career quietly singing and fighting....died at 94.

Watching again the special on PBS about his life I as struck with how the tag "communist" was used exactly as "terrorist" is being used today; as a way to diminish the legitimacy of opposition....you have to turn your opponent into a monster in order to distract people from the message....in Turkey no the label "terrorist" is being applied by the government to journalists who go digging into government abuse and scandal....Daniel Ellsberg was never tried for leaking the truth about the war in Vietnam, but Bradley Manning sits in jail and had his basic rights stripped from him when he was still only accused,for exposing the truth about the Iraqi wars, even though most us knew at the time the Iraq war was based on lies...not like during Vietnam when we were still naive enough to believe the government....the days of blacklisting people because they are "terrorists", for opposing our government, are coming.....

There has not been a nation on earth better equipped to turn Fascist, with style, than our own...in all of history.
