Dr Joseph points out in his book that the bad blood between Christians and Muslims was caused mostly by the periodic defeat of Turkey and Persia by the Russians over a few hundred years. Russian, meaning Christian, armies would occupy Muslim lands and quite naturally supress, abuse and murder thousands…whole villages were wiped out. Local Christians were encouraged and used by the invading Russians to help in the slaughter and took advantage no doubt. Dr Joseph points out that the Christians did far worse to the Muslims then they had ever suffered during the course of centuries of neighborly squabbles. As far back as 1774 Russia won the use of Black Sea ports from the Turks as well the right to represent the Greek Orthodox Church in Turkey. This gave them the excuse to intervene whenever they chose to, claiming they were forced to protect the Sultan’s Christian subjects. This would naturally have been resented and added to the bad blood. Later when the missionaries came and pulled us every which way, part of their attraction to the Nestorians and Jacobites was the hope that their sponsors, Great Britain and America would likewise extend their protection to new converts…the French having also established a “protectorate” over Catholics. Fast forward eighty years to the Crimean War and we see Turkey allied with Britain and France against Russia over the same sea ports. Russia lost and by treaty Turkey’s allies Britain and France guaranteed the safety of Turkish Christians. All these “guarantees” of safety led inevitably to waves of resentment by local Muslims against the Christians who were encouraged to report, or make up, complaints of maltreatment so the foreign powers could intervene or hold intervention over the head of the Sultan. It’s not hard to imagine how often our Christians were left to suffer when they realized time and again, but never learned, that no one was interested in protecting them…but only using them and that each time, after they’d served their purpose, they would be abandoned by the Big Christians to well deserved retribution. Guess what’s going to happen this time? Maggie may think freedom and Assyria is around the corner…but she has her back covered, like they all do. If not freedom and Assyria then the next best thing for their national agenda will be reprisals and slaughter…for this will swell that martyr’s list that forms the centerpiece of their national Agenda. These must be the only people in the history of the world who use Pity as a political “action”…and they had to slime the name of the Assyrians for this “agenda”? --------------------- |
