Ray McGovern abused for peacfully protesting Hillary Clinton by Mikesdreams Feb 17, 2011 Ray McGovern, an Army officer veteran, former CIA analyst and member of Veterans for Peace was arrested at a Hillary Clinton speech taking place at George Washington University. His crime? He stood up during the speech and turned his back to her. For this he was drug off in handcuffs so tight he received cuts to his wrists and bled "all over his pants." As he shouted "so this is America?" Ms Clinton continued to talk about the importance of freedom on the internet. At Clinton speeches - no so much. Ray McGovern is a 71 year old and was wearing a Veterans for Peace t-shirt at the time of the incident. Several years ago he protested at a Rumsfeld speech, and was allowed to complete his protest peacefully. as a result of this incident, VFP is demanding an apology for ignoring this incident which took place in front of her as she spoke. VFP describes the injuries suffered by 71 year old McGovern: "Mr. McGovern is covered with bruises, and the metal hadcuffs were fastened so tightly that his wrists were cut and bloody. After being held by local police, he was told that he was being charged with "disorderly conduct." A look at how the Rumsfeld event handled Mr. McGovern's protest: McGovern owns Rumsfeld (on YouTube) video of his similar effort with Secretary of State Clinton: Ray's arrest at Clinton's speech This kind of incident makes eceryone (except for Mr. McGovern who was exercising his rights) look bad - the police, Hillary, the event site (George Washington University). The right thing to do is to apologize for this taking place and make sure this kind of thing does not happen again. Peaceful protest is a right even when the movers and shakers of either sied do not like it. --------------------- |
