One thing Hollywood does, and I don't know if it falls under something called "product placement", is that they're given actual weapons, from small caliber handguns to .50 caliber machine guns, and to even more sophisticated machinery, and they promote these products in their films. It can be done without dialogue like some of Sam Peckinpah's films as in Wild Bunch, The Getaway or Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia, where the lead actor, Holden in Wild Bunch, McQueen in The Getaway, and Warren Oates in Alfredo Garcia, strictly use a .45 caliber Colt handgun. Or, it's infused in the dialogue like Eastwood's famous Dirty Harry films: "This is a .44 Magnum...Do you feel lucky, punk?" But these days it's not so overtly composed, it's all subtle, as corporations hire psychologists, as did the Public Relations Industry did with Freud's nephew, Edward Bernays (a favorite of Joseph Goebbels), to sell wars, guns, cigarettes, alcohol, and morality. This is how Hollywood markets wars and mass murder to the wider audience of teenage kids, mostly young boys. I'm not at all surprised that an act of violence took place while an act of violence was taking place on screen during the marketing of guns and murder by Hollywood. --------------------- |
