Beside using conversion to Christianity as a means to rebel against the Islamic Republic, I don't understand what other reason Iranian Muslims have in choosing to be Christian, especially the American Evagelical brand. Why not Catholic or Eastern Orthodox? Or why not be an athiest, a communist, an anarchist? My cousin in Tehran is one of these types. She's covered her arm with a tattoo of a crucifix to demonstrate to Jesus that she's for real. The funny thing is that her father's Armenian, but he converted to Islam when he married my aunt (khalti), who is not a practicing Muslim. He even went as far as getting a circumcision at the age of 32 to prove his committment - they're a strange bunch. What bothers me about these Evangelicals (I've had some of my Black friends flip when they were in prison), is that they always want to preach and hold your hand and pray out loud - and they really don't like or accept Catholics and Eastern Orthodox as true Christians. I stopped talking to my Black friends, who in turn think I'm confused and need to be saved, so they pray for me. I told them to fuck off with that house nigger shit, and now they think I'm a racist unbeliever... so they pray twice as much for me. --------------------- |
