...talk about your basic denial. This war was encouraged by these same assyrians as the way to GET them a safe haven....and now they're demanding one even more BECAUSE of the war...because the war made things worse for them! They were stupid then, they're even more stupid now. The only safety lies in getting out...just like all those yelling about a safe-haven in Iraq did...and are very glad they did too! This is the glaring flaw in what the Assyrian Aid Society does...though I have supported their efforts, because we're dealing in lives and not ideology, still, it is cruel of them to demand that assyrians remain in Iraq or there will be no help coming from outside. It's a cruel condition to impose on people who would dearly like to escape, as all the rest of us have done. They stay, they run a good risk of being killed OR living diminished lives for a few generations....help them relocate and they at least survive, their children live and eat and get educated and if the day comes when it is safe and meaningful to return, they can go back....because if they are denied the right to return someday it will mean that conditions are still not safe. --------------------- |
