...what becomes apparent in all this is that thses people are the first to know they aren't going to get anywhere and indeed have no intention of getting anywhere close to their dreams...it was hard at first to believe this about them, about anybody, because I'm not built that way...I pick things to do that actually CAN be done, never mind the degree of difficulty...but these boys and girls aren't built like that...they prefer a task that has no hope in hell, especially when attempted by the likes of Aprim and the rest...their reality is that while they're only capable of the kind of "book" Aprim and Rosie-Malek write, they think in terms of best-sellers...of being on the New York Times bestseller list...their aspirations are deliberately way beyond their capabilities...indeed they prefer it that way, beacuse they know better than anyone how unqualified they are...and the only way to ease their self-esteem is to choose grandiose-sounding projects...because then they can say "we're TRYING" something great and grand, which covers the inadequacy they feel at what they ACTUALLY are able to achieve.
